New Albany Piece

This is the latest New Albany painting that I have done.  It is of an alley in downtown New albany.  I found this spot a few weeks ago and just loved it.  I'm pretty happy with the way the painting turned out though there are a few things that I would like back (but that's with any work I have come to find out.)  I will be taking this down to Bab's in downtown New Albany if you want to come look at it.  I will be asking $45 for it, which honestly is dirt cheap for an original watercolor.  Please go check it out when you get a chance.  I have a few other pieces there as well.

11x14 watercolor.  $45

New Watercolor

This is a tree that I painted today.  It is a techinique I saw called "Primary Tree".  I did this try by first wetting my paper, and then splattering yellow, red, and blue paint onto my paper.  Then I got a spray bottle, and sprayed over.  After it dried I painted in the branches.  Very very cool.  I'm selling this one for $40, and prints of it for $15

Watercolor stream experiment

After my first few attempts at watercolor I can most definitely say that I am in love!  This is a beautiful medium, and I am excited about working with it for years and years to come.  I have done relatively few watercolor pieces though, and I feel like I know pretty much nothing about it.

This piece was a practice for me to paint rocks in watercolor.  I used a burnt sienna, raw umber, sap green, and ultramarine blue to paint an undertone of the rocks.  I then took a card and began to scrape out the rock shapes by placing it at a 45 degree angle, and rotating it counterclockwise.  I saw a tutorial of this on youtube and decided to give it a shot.  I was pleasantly surprised by the results, and I feel like I learned a good trick with watercolors.  I think i'm going to try a technique sort of like this to paint grass.  Maybe in another painting.  Anyways thanks for stopping by!  If you have any tips or want to just chat about art feel free to leave a comment or email me at: artbyjeremiah09@gmail.com

Hope you have had some wonderful Holidays

I hope everyone has enjoyed their Thanksgiving holidays.  This year has definitely been an interesting one.  For the first time I didn't have Thanksgiving with my family, which I must admit was very weird. I definitely missed my mom's dressing.  Instead I came down to Hattiesburg with my fiancĂ© to spend thanksgiving with her family.  The trip got interesting when her baby sister was in a car accident thirty minutes after we arrived.  She spent 2 nights in the hospital, but thankfully is home now and doing just fine.  Anyways, with the Holidays there hasn't been much drawing or painting going on.  I worked on one piece before leaving, but never had a chance to get it up on here.  I will do that whenever I get back home sometime tonight.

8x10 portrait
With the holidays coming up I know if you are like me you are trying to figure out how to get that special gift for everyone.  I can personally attest to how great a original piece of art is for someone.

This is a drawing I did last year for my grandmother.  It is a picture of my Aunt who passed away a year prior to the drawing.  It hit my grandmother really hard, so I wanted to give her something extra special.  Having something so personal meant the world to her, and I would love to see other people be able to have similar experiences this Christmas.   Pictures of loved ones, or special memories make some of the most special presents.  Email me at:

artbyjeremiah09@gmail.com

and we can talk about some custom artwork for Christmas presents.

Also look up my etsy shop ArtbyJeremiah and you can buy some pieces from there as well.  Thanks for stopping by.  I look forward to putting some new drawings and paintings up on here very soon.

Just got back from New Albany

I would like to thank everyone who came out to New Albany today and stopped by my art stand.  It meant so much having everyone there supporting me and asking questions.  I would especially like to thank those who purchased my art work.  Today was a great learning experience on what to do and what not to do when selling art work.  I left a few paintings there in Bab's for anyone who wants to stop by and possibly purchase them!?!?   I'm hoping to get several more done that I can leave in there to sell!  Once again thanks to everyone who came.  Also here are pictures of what sold today.

A christmas piece

This is a Christmas piece I did for the New Albany open house this Sunday.  This is a watercolor of Santa Claus.  I hope it gets everyone in the Christmas spirit.  I was nervous doing this one because i've never done a watercolor portrait, but I am really pleased with how it came out.  Took me about 2 hours to do this one.  It is 9x12.  I will be selling this piece for $35!
9x12 watercolor  $35

Finished New Albany piece

16x20 oil pastel  $75
This is a poor quality picture, but what you are looking at is a drawings of a coke logo in downtown New Albany.  This is located in Coopers Park.   I used oil pastels on a 16x20 sheet.  I put roughly 14 hours into this piece.   I will be selling this along with other pieces Sunday Nov. 11 at the open house in downtown New Albany!  Stop by and see me!  If you like it this can yours to take home for $75.  Its worth that and much more I do believe.

New Piece

This is of the old movie theatre in downtown New Albany.  It is a quick watercolor, and one that I will definitely be doing again.  I love that old theatre look. I used watercolors on this one and really had a great time with the medium.  I believe I will continue to draw this building and work with several different colors to see what I can get.  The size is 9x12 in case you were wondering.

New Albany art

So today I started a new series of pieces.  All the pieces will be of downtown New Albany (a small main street community down the road from where I live).  The first one will be an oil pastel piece down of a one of the sides of a building with a Coke logo on it.  It really represents the old school flavor of the town.  I'm not sure yet what mediums I will use for the other few pieces ( i'm wanting to do 5 originally).  If  I can get them done by next Sunday I can take them to an open house in New albany and hopefully sell a few.  We will see.  I'm pretty excited about it!

finished commission

I just finished painting this piece for a customer out of houston, tx.  He wanted an abstract skyline that really dealt with a lot of blue's, blacks, and greys.  It took me a while to finish (its a pretty large piece) but I have to stay I am very pleased with it.  The picture isn't the quality I would like, but I don't have a great camera.

I guess I need to welcome you here

Sharing my art with the world has been a lifelong dream for me.  If you don't know me, my name is Jeremiah Ross.  I like to call myself a "local artist" from Northeast Mississippi, though most of my art is drawn in the back room of my house and few rarely see it.  If you know anything about an artist you understand the feeling of wanting to share what you do with the rest of the world.  That has been my dream for sometime, but I have never just been able to get it off the ground.  I want my art to go beyond just my sketch books and out into the world.  So this is part of that journey.  I have an email account where you can email me if you want to purchase any of my art, or buy a print of something. It is artbyjeremiah09@gmail.com  I do both commissions and prints.  Also if you just want to talk art at anytime I would be glad to do that.  I hope you enjoy this page.  If you want to send me some of your own artwork I would gladly post it on here as well.  I'm looking forward to this.

If you want to see a few other pieces I have done recently visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Artwork-by-Jeremiah/106060179497209   like my page!

This is an oil pastel I did of a flower just a few hours ago.  If you have any tips for it leave them in the comment section below.  I really enjoyed working on this one.  I'm wanting to invest in a good set of oil pastels and pastel paper.  I think it would make things so much easier.
